Cerebral palsy may have numerous causes and it may be inherited as well as developed.
Among the prenatal (those occurring prior to birth) causes of Cerebral palsy there are:
Rubella
Taxoplasomosis
CMV - cytomegalovirus
Intracerberal hemorrhage
Also the use of cocaine, alcohol or tobacco in pregnancy increases the risk for Cerebral palsy.
The postnatal causes of Cerebral palsy include:
Neurologic injury sustained after birth
Incompatibility between blood types of the mother and her child which may result in anemia. Then anemia may lead to jaundice which causes Cerebral palsy.
Seizure disorder
Encephalitis and meningitis (infections affecting the brain) may cause Cerebral palsy
Physical trauma to a child
Near drowning/suffocation
